Painting Research
Physical S.E.X. - 2005, Copywrite Tim Bavington
This piece is very appealing and simple. I like the rainbow effect on a simple background. The use of positive and negative space surprises me and the overall feeling is heart warming.
Black Form II - 2012, Copywrite Ellsworth Kelly
I love the simplicity of this piece. It has basic shapes and communicates a lot of design to me. The colour scheme also impresses me.
Not Titled - 2015, Copywrite Richard Wright
Very straight forward, and interesting. I love the simplicity of this piece.

12 Principles of Animation
5: Follow through and overlapping action
This principle is used to finish up actions after one action has already been completed. Such as when a character stops, there hair keeps falling until it is still. It is a very important action to make stop motion look more real.
6: Slow-out and Slow-in
This principle shown how many frames there will be in different timing of an acton. In the beginning there might be a lot of frames to make the action look smooth, near the middle there are less frames to make the action hold up a little, and near the end there are more frames once again.
7: Arcs
This effect is used to create a smooth circular effect.

Techniques for Stop Motion Animation
Thursday, 7 November 2013
Phenakistoscope
How it works:
The phenakistoscope uses the persistence of motion. This technique creates an illusion of movemnet.
History:
In 1832, Belgian physicist Joseph Plateau and his sons introduced the phenakistoscope. It was also invented independently in the same year by Simon von Stampfer.
Interisting Facts:
The machine is actually not being modified between frames, but is just being spun, the result is an effect of motion.

Gulp - Stop Motion Animation Video Review
I was very surprised that "Gulp" was made using real people and a life size set. I loved the edea of using a real person and the day/night cycle. It must have been hard to take the shots, because they talked a lot about waves interrupting there work. When I was watching the video, I would have never thought that the set was actually that big, but because of all the very fine details, you cant even notice that.

Artist Statement
In this art piece I drew a chess piece on a table. It is positioned on the corner of a table. The chess piece is realistic
because of the dark value I integrated into it and because it is standing on a
shelf, it is still and not moving. The proportion of the chess piece is quite big. It stands tall in front of the composition. This gives a sense of balance. The
background is a pattern of a checked board. Dark value is used on the chess
piece to create emphasis.
To make my chess piece visually appealing and not to position it in the centre of the art board I decided to put the chess piece on a wooden shelf on the side of the composition. This is where the rule of thirds comes in. I tried to put the chess piece in the centre vertically and more to the left square horizontally.
To make the chess piece stand out and to put emphasis on it I added a metallic look to it, using value. The metallic makes the chess piece look shinny and smooth apart form the rough background and the wooden textured shelf. This makes the chess piece stand out.

Logo Assignment
Black & White Version
Color Version
My logo is made out of an outline of a Jaguar. The Jaguar is running to represent my speed in finishing projects. The thickness of lines also changes to represent movement. The font matches the outline design and is curved to follow the direction of the Jaguars jump. In both designs, the strokes fade slightly at the edges to represent movement. The logo was made in Adobe Illustrator CS6 with line outlines made with the pen tool. The lines are pressure based so they fade out on both ends. The outline create the feeling of the animal shape. The font is a similar technique with the faded outlines. The background is black to create contrast to the logo.

Judging Assignment
Title: Sloop Nassau
Artist: Winslow Homer
Date Created: 1899
Medium: Watercolor and graphite on off-white wove paper
Dimensions: 14 7/8 x 21 3/8 in. (37.8 x 54.3 cm)
In
terms of formalism the art piece contains a lot of elements and principles of
design. The value in the water created a sense of depth and distance away from
the shore. The cold color theme makes the art piece look appealing. The
contrast between the water’s color and the sky’s color creates more emphasis on
the vessel.
The
color tone of this art piece creates a cold emotion. The dark blue colors
represent a stormy mood. The light brushstrokes add to this mood as well as the
colors blurring with each other. Overall this piece wouldn’t quite put a smile on
your face.

Profile Picture
My profile picture represents me because it shows a rough picture of me. To alter this image I used 2 artistic photoshop filters and some lighting adjustments. The changes made me look more anonymous and make the picture more contrasty.
Written Component
I created a scene of rhythm in
both designs by angling all the lines in a 45-degree angle and using the same
distance apart from them. The first rhythm design is simple and steady. It is
made out of lines that are all the same width but different height. The second
design is more dynamic, because the lines have value and there is movement
represented with the wavy lines. The second design works better because it has
more movement and variety. Both design are pleasant to the eye.
